With the continuous development of the plastics industry, manufacturers are paying increasing attention to production costs, processing efficiency and final product performance. Plastic filler masterbatch is widely used in the production of plastic films, woven bags, injection molded products, sheets, packaging materials and other plastic products.Plastic filler masterbatch is a concentrated mixture made from calcium carbonate or other mineral fillers, carrier resin and processing additives. Through professional compounding technology, these materials are converted into uniform plastic pellets that can be easily added during plastic processing.Depending on the application requirements, PE, PP or other compatible polymers can be selected as carrier resins. The main production processes include raw material preparation, weighing, mixing, melt extrusion, cooling, pelletizing and packaging.

Ⅰ   Plastic Filler Masterbatch Production Process

1.Raw Material Preparation

The production of filler masterbatch begins with the preparation of high-quality raw materials, including:

- Calcium carbonate powder

- PE, PP or other carrier resins

- Dispersing agents

- Lubricants

- Processing additives

Calcium carbonate is one of the most commonly used mineral fillers in plastic masterbatch production due to its good whiteness, stability and cost advantages. The carrier resin is selected according to the final application. For example, PE filler masterbatch normally uses polyethylene as the carrier, while PP filler masterbatch uses polypropylene as the carrier to achieve better compatibility with the base resin.

2.Accurate Weighing and Mixing

According to the product formulation, calcium carbonate, carrier resin and additives are accurately measured and mixed.Different applications require different formulations. The calcium carbonate content, particle size, carrier resin type and additive system can be adjusted according to customer requirements and final product performance.A uniform mixing process helps ensure stable quality and improves filler dispersion during further processing.

3.Melt Extrusion

After mixing, the raw materials enter a twin-screw extruder.During the extrusion process, the materials are heated, melted, plasticized and continuously mixed. The carrier resin becomes molten and evenly coats the calcium carbonate particles, forming a stable polymer-filler system. The extrusion temperature, screw design, screw speed and processing conditions all influence the final properties of the filler masterbatch, including dispersion, flowability and processing performance.

4.Cooling and Pelletizing

After extrusion, the molten material is formed into continuous strands. The strands are cooled and solidified before entering the pelletizing system, where they are cut into uniform granules. The finished filler masterbatch is supplied in pellet form, making it easy to store, transport and use in different plastic processing applications.

5.Quality Inspection and Packaging

Before shipment, filler masterbatch products are inspected according to customer requirements.

Common quality control items include:

- Calcium carbonate content

- Moisture content

- Melt flow index (MFI)

- Density

- Whiteness

- Pellet appearance

- Dispersion performance

- Processing stability

After passing inspection, the products are packed and prepared for delivery.

Ⅱ   PP Filler Masterbatch Applications

PP filler masterbatch uses polypropylene (PP) as the carrier resin and is mainly designed for polypropylene plastic processing applications.

It is widely used in:PP Woven Bags

PP filler masterbatch can be used for producing:

- Woven bags

- Jumbo bags

- FIBC bags

- Industrial packaging bags

It can help optimize material costs while maintaining suitable stiffness and processing performance when properly formulated.

PP Raffia and Woven Materials

PP filler masterbatch is commonly applied in PP tapes, raffia and woven plastic materials.

These products are widely used in agricultural packaging, industrial packaging and daily-use packaging industries.

PP Injection Molded Products

PP filler masterbatch can be used in selected injection molding applications, including:

- Plastic containers

- Plastic boxes

- Household plastic products

- Industrial plastic components

The recommended addition ratio depends on the product design, processing conditions and required mechanical properties.

PP Sheets and Extrusion Products

PP filler masterbatch can also be used in certain PP sheet, board and extrusion applications.

For different products, the filler masterbatch grade should be selected according to the processing equipment and final product requirements.

Ⅲ   PE Filler Masterbatch Applications

PE filler masterbatch uses polyethylene (PE) as the carrier resin and is mainly used in polyethylene processing systems.

It is suitable for:

PE Blown Film

PE filler masterbatch is widely used in blown film production, including:

- Shopping bags

- Garbage bags

- Packaging film

- Industrial packaging film

- Agricultural film

It can be matched with different PE systems such as LDPE, LLDPE and HDPE according to application requirements.

PE Packaging Bags

PE filler masterbatch can be added into PE resin for selected packaging bag applications. It helps manufacturers optimize raw material costs while maintaining required processing performance and product quality.

HDPE Blow Molding Products:With suitable formulation design, PE filler masterbatch can be used in certain HDPE blow molding applications, such as plastic containers and other molded products.

PE Sheets and Extrusion Products

PE filler masterbatch can also be used in selected PE sheets, profiles and extrusion products. For products requiring high mechanical strength, such as certain pipe applications, the filler level should be carefully evaluated.

Ⅳ   Biodegradable Filler Masterbatch Applications

Biodegradable filler masterbatch is different from traditional PE and PP filler masterbatch. It is specially developed for biodegradable polymer systems and requires good compatibility between the filler masterbatch and biodegradable resin.Adding biodegradable filler masterbatch into ordinary PE or PP does not automatically make conventional plastics fully biodegradable.

Depending on the formulation, biodegradable filler masterbatch can be used for:

Biodegradable Shopping Bags :It can be applied in selected biodegradable shopping bags and packaging bags.

Biodegradable Garbage Bags  :With suitable biodegradable resin systems and required standards, it can be used in biodegradable garbage bag production.

Biodegradable Packaging Film :It can help balance production costs, processing performance and product requirements in biodegradable film applications.

Biodegradable Packaging Products  :Depending on the base resin, biodegradable filler masterbatch can be used in selected packaging materials and disposable plastic products.

Selected Injection Molded Products  :With suitable biodegradable polymers and formulations, it can also be used in certain injection molding applications.

Ⅴ  How to Choose the Right Filler Masterbatch?

Choosing the correct filler masterbatch depends on several factors:

1.Polymer Compatibility

The carrier resin should match the base plastic material. For PP products, PP filler masterbatch is normally recommended. For PE products, PE filler masterbatch is normally selected.

2.Processing Method

Different manufacturing processes require different filler masterbatch properties.

Examples:

- Blown film requires good dispersion and flowability.

- Injection molding requires suitable melting performance.

- Woven bags require good process stability.

3.Final Product Requirements

Manufacturers should consider:

- Mechanical strength

- Surface appearance

- Printing requirements

- Stiffness

- Cost targets

4.Calcium Carbonate Content and Dispersion

Calcium carbonate content, particle size and surface treatment technology influence the processing performance and final product quality.
